“I’m a Doctor! But probably not the one you were expecting!”
We are so unbelievably excited to announce our next guest…. The 8th Doctor himself!
That’s right we have a legend of film and TV coming to Sci Fi Scarborough, 2026 It’s the one and only Paul McGann!
Paul came to prominence for portraying Percy Toplis in the television serial The Monocled Mutineeer in 1986, then starred in the dark comedy “Withnail and I” in 1987, which was a critical success and developed a cult following. He appeared in a vast number of films and TV shows over the years including Empire of the Sun and Alien 3. We simply cannot list his entire filmography… Paul is so in demand that it would take forever!
Of course, McGann later became more widely known for portraying the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 TV Movie which was a joint venture between the BBC and Fox Network. While Paul’s interpretation of the character was widely praised, the show was not picked up for a series and many thought it was one and done for McGann in the role.
However, we could not have been more wrong as the 8th Doctor has since gone on and on through the big finish audio dramas and is one of the most developed incarnations of the role. He has become a fan favourite and there was no more exciting moment than when he appeared as a total surprise for the shows 50th anniversary special, “The Night of the Doctor” in 2013 to finally round off the character with his own regeneration scene. McGann returned once more in 2022 for Jodie Whitaker’s final adventure and people never get tired of seeing him appear!
SFS 2026 was already looking amazing but is now shaping up to be the most exciting one yet! The Doctor will see you in April!
