Well, how about an awesome announcement from Sci-Fi Scarborough as we present our first guest for the 18th & 19th of April 2026…
“Brave heart, Tegan!”
“Oh, rabbits!”
It’s only one of the most popular and famous companions of classic Doctor Who, Tegan Jovanka! Yes, Janet Fielding will be joining us in April to meet you all and share stories of her time in the TARDIS.
Tegan joined Doctor Who in the final story for Tom Baker before travelling with the fifth Doctor for almost his entire run. Tegan was a unique companion in that she did not choose to join the TARDIS crew, she stumbled into the ship by accident believing it to be a Police telephone box (didn’t we all!) Always one to challenge and question the Doctor, Tegan was an essential part of the success to the show in the early 1980s and has remined a fan favourite ever since. Her popularity was evident in 2022 as fans rejoiced everywhere when she returned for Jodie Whitaker’s final story and was still the companion we all remembered and loved.
Beyond Doctor Who, Janet is a former member of Ken Campbell’s Science Fiction Theatre of Liverpool and with Ken Campbell, she co-wrote a play called Earth Burps about the next 10,000 years. Janet is one of the founders of Women in Film and Television (UK) and ran it for its first four years. She then took over the theatrical agency, Marina Martin Associates (now Gordon & French) where her clients included Simon Callow, Rhys Ifans, Hugh Bonneville, Paul McGann, Bill Paterson, Indira Varma and Anne Marie Duff. From 2010 to 2022, Janet ran a youth arts charity in Ramsgate called Project MotorHouse. She is now retired–ish but she also says she never could sit still for long. This is of course great news for us at SFS, as we cannot wait to bring her to our beloved seaside town!
