If you have a keen interest in the entertainment industry, but see yourself in a backstage role, our Media Make-up course could be just what you’re looking for.
Being part of the Media Make-up team at Scarborough TEC provides the opportunity to prepare performers and models for, photoshoots, stage, film and TV is more than just applying make-up, you will need to be skilled in applying looks that translate well on screen and stage and stand up against harsh lighting, and now more than ever, look impeccable on HD TV and increasingly advanced photographic equipment.
You will learn the art of fashion and photographic make-up, hair artistry, lash and brow treatments, body art design techniques, theatrical character make-up, SFX casualty special effects, prosthetic making and application and the creation of facial postiche.

You will complete the following units on the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Make-up:

• Working in beauty related industries.
• Follow health and safety in the salon.
• Client care and communication in beauty related industries.
• Apply make-up.
• Provide eyelash and brow treatments.
• Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector.
• The art of photographic make- up.
• Body art design.
• Apply skin tanning techniques.
• The art of colouring hair.
• The art of dressing hair.
• Make and style a hair addition.
You will complete the following units on the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up:

• Working with colleagues within the beauty related industries.
• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon.
• Creative hairdressing design skills.
• Design and apply face and body art.
• Fashion and photographic make-up.
• Apply airbrush make-up to the face.
• Media make-up.
• Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps.
• Style and fit postiche.
• Camouflage make-up.
• Create and cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps.
Work experience will play a key role in the course and could include placements on fashion shoots, theatre productions, local events and clinical/emergency settings within the NHS and emergency services. You will create a professional industry ready portfolio which will showcase your work/designs and progression made as an up and coming make-up artist. You will also have an option to take part in local and national competitions, showcasing your skills and an opportunity to network with other artists.

Throughout the year there will be an opportunity to attend master classes and workshops delivered by industry specialists and guest speakers. Excursions to industry trades shows will form part of your course experience too.
